Lot 143: A British Union Flag of Multi-Piece Construction
A British Union Flag (Union Jack) manufactured using multi-piece sewn fabric panels. The construction features individual sections of red, white, and blue material stitched together, a method typically associated with higher-quality flags for official, military, or maritime purposes. The hoist is constructed from red canvas or heavy cotton webbing and includes an integrated strap for attachment to a halyard. The material appears to be a traditional woven wool bunting or a similar durable synthetic fabric. There are no manufacturer’s marks or government broad arrow stamps visible through the packaging. The item includes a white paper slip marked 51 and an orange adhesive sticker marked 143.
Condition report:
The flag is currently folded and housed within a clear plastic storage bag. Based on visual inspection through the packaging, the flag appears to be in good used condition with vibrant colours. No significant fraying, holes, or staining are immediately apparent, although a complete assessment of the fly and hoist ends would require the item to be removed from the bag.
