Lot 129: Third Reich Propaganda Cigarette Picture Album Deutschland Erwacht
A Third Reich era cigarette picture album titled Deutschland Erwacht: Werden, Kampf und Sieg der NSDAP (Germany Awakes: Development, Struggle, and Victory of the NSDAP). Published by Cigaretten-Bilderdienst, Altona-Bahrenfeld, circa 1933. The album is a large-format, cloth-bound hardcover in a tan/brown colour. The front cover features the title in debossed Fraktur script, accompanied by a profile portrait of Adolf Hitler and a stylized wheat ear motif. The interior is printed on heavy paper stock using traditional German Fraktur typeface. This type of publication was designed for collectors to paste in photographic cards obtained from cigarette packets. Visible interior content includes page 9, titled Adolf Hitler, which features a pasted-in glossy black-and-white photographic print of Hitler’s birthplace in Braunau am Inn. The accompanying text provides a hagiographic biographical sketch of his early life.

The album is in fair condition with visible signs of age and heavy handling. The front cover shows significant water staining, scuffing, and fraying at the corners and edges. The spine exhibits wear. Interior pages show typical age-toning and yellowing. There is prominent water staining and foxing on the initial pages, particularly evident on the flyleaf. The pasted-in photographic cards appear to be intact and well-adhered in the sections shown.
