APRIL AUCTION

Lot 124: A Large Victorian Brass Jam Pan with Wrought Iron Handle

The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A large Victorian or early 20th-century utilitarian brass vessel, designed for use as a jam pan, preserve pot, or cauldron. The vessel is constructed from heavy-gauge sheet brass with a rolled rim and is fitted with a hand-forged wrought iron swing handle attached to the body via two riveted iron brackets. The item exhibits a traditional circular form characteristic of domestic cookware from the period. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible on the surfaces; an orange auction lot sticker numbered 124 is present on the interior. The lot includes a larger secondary vessel in which the brass pan is nested, appearing to be manufactured from galvanised steel or zinc.

Condition report:

The piece shows signs of extensive domestic use and age. There is a matured patina across the exterior with surface oxidation and tarnishing. The interior displays significant areas of green verdigris. The wrought iron handle and brackets exhibit surface rust. Minor dents, surface scratches, and small indentations are present, consistent with the item\'s age and function.
