Lot 108: A Collection of Porcelain Wildlife Cabinet Plates featuring the work of David Shepherd
A collection of circular porcelain cabinet plates, each featuring a central transfer-printed illustration of a group of hippopotami in a naturalistic grassy landscape. The decoration is after the work of the celebrated British wildlife artist David Shepherd (1931-2017), whose printed signature is present to the lower right of the scene. The plates are finished with a plain white well and a gilt-lined rim. No manufacturer backstamps are visible in the provided photographs.
Condition report:
The plates appear to be in good overall condition, with no visible chips, cracks, or significant wear to the gilding on the uppermost plate. Two adhesive inventory or auction labels are present on the surface of the top plate.
