Lot 103: A Japanese Porcelain Lustre Tea Service
A Japanese porcelain part tea service featuring an iridescent peach-coloured lustre glaze. The set is crafted from thin porcelain and decorated with hand-painted motifs depicting chrysanthemums and birds in flight, executed in a palette of blue, yellow, and orange. The collection includes a large teapot with a wicker-bound overhead handle, a lidded twin-handled sugar bowl, a cream jug, and an assortment of teacups and saucers. No manufacturer marks are visible on the exterior surfaces.
Condition report:
The service is in mixed condition. One teacup is severely damaged and broken into several fragments. The remaining pieces show surface wear consistent with age and use, including some rubbing to the lustre glaze and hand-painted decoration. Prospective bidders should be aware of the fragile nature of this eggshell porcelain and inspect for minor chips or hairline cracks.
