Lot 414: A Pair of Mid-Twentieth Century Toy Tanks
A pair of vintage toy tanks manufactured from lithographed tinplate. The first tank is finished in a green, tan, and cream camouflage pattern, featuring the number 238 on the turret and a lithographed soldier figure visible through an open hatch; this design is consistent with models produced by Marx. The second tank features a grey and silver finish with yellow and red accents, including the number 32 and a yellow star. It bears a red diamond mark containing the letter R on the front glacis plate, similar to designs by French manufacturer XY or Spanish maker Rico. Both tanks feature graphic representations of tracks and wheels to the sides and are fitted with internal mechanisms, likely friction or clockwork.
Condition report:
Both items are in play-worn condition. The camouflage tank shows surface scratches and minor paint loss. The grey tank exhibits more advanced wear, including areas of oxidation, pitting, and paint loss. Mechanisms are untested. Both items are offered without original packaging.
