Start price: £2

Auction house commission:

A first edition copy of The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher by Beatrix Potter, published by F. Warne and Co. in 1906. The volume is bound in the original dark green cloth with silver-toned lettering to the front board and spine, featuring a circular pictorial inset of the protagonist fishing. The illustrated endpapers contain a handwritten ink inscription that reads: To Nellie [last name unclear], from Miss Potter, Christmas 1906. The work contains numerous colour illustrations by the author throughout the text.

The item is in poor condition. The cloth boards exhibit heavy moisture staining, surface abrasions, and fading to the silver-toned lettering. There is significant fraying and loss of material along the spine and board edges. Internally, the pages and endpapers show extensive foxing and large moisture stains, particularly to the upper margins. The binding is weakened with several signatures becoming loose.
