A Victorian coal scuttle of traditional helmet form, constructed from hammered brass with a planished exterior texture. The vessel features a large curved swing handle and a smaller fixed handle at the rear. The body is assembled with visible rivet joins and is supported by a circular pedestal base. The interior shows darkening consistent with previous use for holding coal or ash.
Condition report:
The scuttle exhibits a natural aged patina with areas of tarnish and surface oxidisation throughout the brass exterior. Minor scuffs and surface scratches are present, consistent with age and functional use. The interior is darkened from soot and ash. An adhesive lot sticker is present on the handle.
