Lot 319: A World War I Period Portrait on Wood Panel by A. Muller, 1917
This framed artwork features a profile portrait executed in fine-line ink or pyrography upon a wood panel. The subject is depicted in profile, wearing a brimmed hat adorned with a feather and a draped shawl or cloak. The upper right corner contains a handwritten inscription in French cursive which reads: A. Muller, Prisonnier de guerre interné en Suisse, Bex (Canton de Vaud) 1917. The work is set within a dark-finished wooden frame featuring a narrow gold-toned inner border. The wood panel displays a prominent horizontal grain throughout the composition.
Condition report:
The artwork is in good condition with minor surface marks consistent with age. The frame shows light shelf wear and retains two small adhesive inventory stickers on the right-hand side.
