Lot 296: A Vintage Folk Art Carved and Polychrome Painted Wooden Horse and Sulky Pull Toy
This vintage folk art toy comprises a horse-drawn carriage or sulky with a seated driver. The horse and driver figures are hand-carved from wood and finished with polychrome paint. The horse is detailed with inset glass eyes and a natural hair tail. The driver is depicted wearing a traditional red jacket and a black riding cap. The carriage chassis and two large spoked wheels are constructed from metal. Visible markings include several adhesive auction labels, notably the number 296 on the horse’s flank and 8 8 on the rear.
Condition report:
The item exhibits significant rusted patina and surface oxidation throughout the metal carriage and wheels. The wooden components show signs of age-appropriate wear, including areas of paint loss, surface scuffs, and minor abrasions.
