Lot 589: G. Hennet, A Map of the County Palatine of Lancaster, 1830
A large-scale nineteenth-century engraved wall map of the County Palatine of Lancaster. The cartographic work is titled A MAP OF THE County Palatine OF LANCASTER and was produced from an accurate survey by G. Hennet made in the years 1828 and 1829. The piece was engraved by James Bingley of London and published by Henry Teesdale and Co. The map provides detailed information including the divisions of hundreds and parishes. It features a decorative inset illustration of the New Custom House, Liverpool. The map is constructed of engraved paper sections mounted on a linen backing and is currently presented partially unrolled from its original cylindrical wooden core.
