A Collection of Five Selangor Pewter Chinese Zodiac Plates and a Pewter Tankard
A collection of five commemorative decorative plates identified as Selangor Pewter Chinese Zodiac plates, accompanied by one lidded pewter tankard. The plates are crafted from pewter, featuring an ornate relief border and a central roundel depicting various Chinese zodiac animals: one with a dragon, one with a rooster, and three with a rearing horse (one of which includes a small red jewel inlay). Engraved inscriptions on the plates include “RUBY WEDDING GREETINGS TO MUM AND DAD CELEBRATED IN MIRI, SARAWAK ON 2ND SEPT 1979”, “TO ANGELA HAPPY BIRTHDAY 25. 3. 81. THE HAGUE HOLLAND FROM JOHN”, “TO MUMMY HAPPY BIRTHDAY 25. 3. 79 MIRI FROM NICOLA & IAIN”, “TO ANGELA HAPPY BIRTHDAY 25. 3. 79 MIRI FROM JOHN”, and “JOHN, NICOLA & IAIN ST HELENS ENGLAND”. The accompanying tankard is plain and cylindrical, also in pewter, featuring a hinged lid and an orange sticker marked “63”. The lot dates from the late 1970s to early 1980s, consistent with the engraved dates.
