Fry's Milk Chocolate 'Five Boys' Enameled Metal Advertising Sign
A vintage Fry’s Milk Chocolate ‘Five Boys’ enameled metal advertising sign. The sign features a chromolithographic style illustration depicting five sequential portraits of a young boy’s face, each illustrating a different emotion. These emotions are labeled “DESPERATION.”, “PACIFICATION.”, “EXPECTATION.”, “ACCLAMATION.”, and concluding with “REALIZATION. IT’S FRY’S.” The bottom of the sign is clearly marked “J.S. FRY & SONS LTD. BRISTOL & LONDON.” This piece exhibits characteristics consistent with late 19th to early 20th-century commercial advertising. Visible mounting holes are present in the corners.
