A Chinese soapstone figure of Shou Lao, dating to the early 20th century. The carved stone figurine depicts an East Asian-style elderly male figure or sage, shown wearing flowing robes, with a long beard and hair tied up, holding a gnarled staff that resembles bamboo. The material displays a variegated yellowish-brown to cream coloration with natural veining and inclusions throughout. An orange sticker with the numbers “537” is affixed to the front of the base, and faint, indistinct carved markings are visible on the lower front of the figure’s robe.
