Early 20th Century Chinese Art Deco Peking Runner
An Early 20th Century Chinese Art Deco Peking runner-style rug. The piece features a pictorial design on a deep navy blue ground, depicting stylized birds in flight and perched on blossoming branches, executed in a multicolored palette including orange, yellow, red, green, and grey, with subtle wavy lines adorning the field. A multi-layered border, predominantly yellow, frames the piece with traditional geometric motifs, stylized florals, and a repeating manji symbol in dark blue and red, separated from the field by a narrow grey stippled band. The woven pile is indicative of wool construction. An orange sticker bearing ‘476’ is visible on the central field.
