OCTOBER SALE
Lot 231:
An oak longcase clock by Chris Dixon of Hexham, dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. The dark-stained oak case features turned pillars flanking the hood. The arched, painted dial displays Roman numeral hour markers, floral motifs in the spandrels, and a pastoral scene depicting a man with a dog above a moon phase aperture. The maker’s name “Chris Dixon, Hexham” is clearly inscribed on the dial, with “Hexham” repeated in smaller script below. The hinged trunk door is fitted with a decorative brass key escutcheon adorned with a small blue tassel, and the clock stands on a plain plinth base. An inventory sticker “231” is visible on the trunk.
