OCTOBER SALE
Lot 175:
A pair of Japanese Satsuma style hand-painted moriage ceramic vases. Each large, highly ornamental vase features a trumpet-shaped, scalloped mouth and two elaborate, scrolled gilt-metal handles. The bodies are densely decorated with polychrome enamel in a vibrant East Asian style. Prominent features include two main cartouches on each vase depicting scenes with multiple figures in traditional attire within landscape or architectural settings, interspersed with rich floral designs and geometric borders. The background enamel exhibits a textured, stippled moriage effect. An orange rectangular sticker with ‘175’ is present on the rim of one vase, and a small circular sticker with ‘6’ is on the lower body of the other.
