Lot 273: A Chad Valley Hoovermatic Toy Twin-Tub Washing Machine
This vintage toy is a scale model of a mid-20th-century Hoovermatic twin-tub washing machine, manufactured in England by The Chad Valley Company Limited under licence from Hoover Limited. The piece is constructed from lithographed tinplate with a cream-finished body accented by blue horizontal stripes. The top features two blue-painted lids, one circular and one rectangular, each fitted with a small red knob. The front panel displays a blue logo within a hatched border reading HOOVERMATIC REGD. TRADE MARK OF HOOVER LTD. Along the bottom edge of the front panel, fine text states MADE IN ENGLAND BY THE CHAD VALLEY COMPANY LIMITED BY PERMISSION OF HOOVER LIMITED.
Condition report:
The item displays signs of age and play wear consistent with use. There are visible surface scratches, minor paint loss, and small patches of surface oxidation and light rust, particularly concentrated on the blue lids and the top surface. The structure appears complete. Internal mechanisms have not been tested for functionality. The original box is absent. The item is accompanied by a contemporary auction lot sticker and a small paper identification tag.
