Lot 167: A Japanese Imari Style Porcelain Plate and a Chinese Polychrome Porcelain Figure

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises two ceramic items: a Japanese porcelain plate and a Chinese porcelain figurine. The plate is decorated in the traditional Imari palette, featuring underglaze cobalt blue, overglaze iron red, and gilt highlights, with additional green and turquoise enamels. The design consists of asymmetrical cartouches and panels; two primary panels depict figures in landscapes and interior settings, while the surrounding border contains stylized floral motifs, circular medallions, and geometric diaper patterns. It is characteristic of the late 19th or early 20th century Meiji or Taisho periods. The second item is a Chinese polychrome porcelain figure representing a traditional deity or high-ranking official, likely one of the Sanxing (Three Stars), possibly Lu, the God of Prosperity. The figure is depicted with a long black beard and wears ceremonial official robes and a formal headdress, holding a ruyi scepter. The decoration uses polychrome enamels with gilt accents, featuring a pale celadon-green ground with floral and foliate patterns, contrasted by an iron-red sash and sleeve linings. This figure is attributed to the 20th century. No maker marks are visible on the front of the plate or the visible portions of the figure; several adhesive lot and price stickers are present.

Condition report:

Both items appear to be in good overall condition. The plate shows minor expected wear to the gilded rim. The figurine shows no visible chips, cracks, or evidence of restoration from the provided angle. Multiple adhesive stickers are attached to the surfaces of both items.
