Lot 744: A Set of Four William IV Mahogany Dining Chairs
A set of four William IV mahogany side chairs, dating to circa 1830-1840. Each chair is constructed with a curved, scroll-top bar-back top rail positioned over a horizontal mid-rail decorated with carved scroll terminals. The chairs feature fixed seats upholstered in a cream and gold-toned striped fabric, finished with a braided gimp trim. The frames are supported by ring-turned and tapered front legs and out-swept sabre rear legs. The construction follows traditional early nineteenth-century patterns with the back uprights flowing continuously into the seat rails. No maker’s marks, labels, or stamps are visible on the exterior of the chairs.
Condition report:
The set is in good used condition consistent with age. There is minor surface wear and occasional scuffing to the timber, particularly around the lower sections of the legs. The upholstery appears clean and well-maintained with only minor signs of use.
