Lot 480: Edwardian Style Stained Wood Ladder Back Side Chair with Needlepoint Seats
An early 20th-century style side chair, constructed from stained hardwood. Each chair features a ladder back design with three horizontal slats, each with a scalloped lower edge. The chair is fitted with inset seat panels upholstered in hand-worked floral needlepoint, depicting roses and other blooms in pink, yellow, and green tones on a pale ground. The upholstery is bordered with a cream-coloured braided gimp trim. The frame are supported by turned front legs with connecting stretchers and square-section back legs. A small paper lot tag marked 2 is adhered to one back slat.
Condition report:
The wooden frames exhibit surface scuffs, scratches, and minor finish wear consistent with age. The needlepoint remains largely intact with some light surface wear. The decorative gimp trim shows occasional loose threads and minor fraying. The chairs are structurally sound.
