A decorative botanical study executed in watercolour with gouache highlights on toned paper. The artwork depicts a bouquet of purple and yellow crocuses tied with a white ribbon. To the left is a calligraphic scroll inscribed FEBRUARY, and to the right is a handwritten poetic inscription that mentions the crocus and its association with the month. The piece is signed in cursive in the lower right corner, although the signature is not clearly legible. The work is set behind glass within a wide cream-coloured mount and housed in an ornate moulded gilt frame featuring foliate and floral patterns. A white lot tag marked 2 2 is attached to the mount, and an orange sticker marked 369 is on the lower right of the frame.
Condition report:
The paper shows significant and uniform toning across the sheet. The mount has light surface soiling. The moulded gilt frame is in generally good condition with minor surface wear and light chipping to the gilding consistent with age. A prominent horizontal reflection from overhead lighting is visible in the photograph but does not represent a physical defect on the work itself.
