This lot comprises two circular silver dishes from the early 20th century. The first is a plain sterling silver dish featuring a double-moulded rim and a polished finish. It is struck with a full set of British hallmarks on the rim: the maker mark C J D F for Cornelius Joshua Vander, the anchor assay office mark for Birmingham, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the date letter q for 1915. The second is a silver dish with a hand-hammered martelé finish, centrally inset with a Chinese silver 1 Yuan coin. The coin is dated to the 3rd year of the Republic (1914) and depicts the portrait of Yuan Shikai on the obverse. The reverse of the coin shows a denomination of One Yuan within a wreath of grain.
Combined total weight: 121.06g.
Condition report:
Both items exhibit signs of age-related tarnish and fine surface scratching throughout. The hammered dish shows more significant oxidation and some residue around the junction where the Chinese coin is inset.
