A collection of Great Britain stamps from the Victorian era, mounted on gridded album pages. The assembly includes an 1840 1d black (Penny Black, SG 2) with corner letters S and I, and an 1840 or 1841 2d blue (SG 4 or SG 5) with corner letters S and L. A significant item is the 1848-1854 10d brownish-red embossed issue (SG 57/58), cut square on original paper. The collection features numerous line-engraved 1d red issues (Penny Reds) in both imperforate and perforated states, exhibiting a range of numeral cancellations such as 380, 466, 608, and 741. Later Victorian surface-printed and Postage and Inland Revenue issues are present in various denominations, including 1/2d, 1d, 4d, 6d, and 1s, in colours such as lilac, green, orange, and red. Some examples feature departmental overprints, notably ARMY OFFICIAL. Postmarks include circular date stamps for locations including Manchester and Hampton.
Condition report:
Used condition throughout. The 1d black is used with three to four visible margins. The 10d embossed issue is cut square with margins ranging from close to touched. The 2d blue is used with margins clear of the design. Perforated issues show variable centering from poor to fair, with occasional short or clipped perforations. Cancellations vary in intensity from light circular date stamps to heavy numeral killers that partially obscure the central designs. Minor toning and typical signs of age-related wear are present, consistent with a vintage collection.
