Lot 736: A Pair of Vintage Wooden Trade Ladders
Two vintage wooden ladders of varying design. The first is a single-section ladder featuring rounded timber rungs set into solid wooden side rails. The second is a folding step ladder or painter’s trestle, constructed with flat-fronted steps and diagonal cross-bracing on the rear frame. Both items are manufactured from timber, likely a softwood, and incorporate metal hinges and fastening hardware. The ladders exhibit traditional trade construction, including mortise and tenon joints. A modern orange adhesive label with the characters 736L is attached to the side rail of the folding ladder. A small, dark rectangular metal manufacturer’s or owner’s plate is present on the side of the folding ladder, though the text is worn and illegible.
Condition report:
Both items show signs of extensive industrial or trade use, including a weathered patina, significant paint splatters, and general wear across the wooden and metal components. While they appear structurally complete, they are sold as decorative or historical objects; their load-bearing integrity has not been tested for modern safety standards.
