A Georgian mahogany dressing table or toilet mirror dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. The piece features a shield shaped swing mirror plate within a crossbanded frame, suspended between two curved and tapering uprights surmounted by brass finials. The base is of serpentine form and contains three drawers, each fitted with small circular brass pull handles and decorated with flame mahogany veneers and fine stringing. The construction shows typical period characteristics with a solid mahogany frame and veneered surfaces. Two paper auction labels are present on the top surface, one orange sticker marked 712 and one white sticker marked 7. No maker marks or stamps are visible.
Condition report:
The mirror is in a condition consistent with age and use. The mirror plate shows significant foxing and loss of silvering across the surface. The mahogany finish is dry and would benefit from waxing. There are various light surface scratches, small dents, and marks to the timber throughout. The joinery appears stable, although there is minor movement in the uprights.
