This lot comprises two small, hand-knotted wool rugs of contrasting designs and origins, likely dating to the 20th century. The first rug is a tribal Gabbeh-style mat, featuring a thick, plush wool pile in a deep ochre-yellow field. The minimalist design consists of scattered primitive, stylized motifs in blue and red, characteristic of nomadic weaving traditions. It is finished with a red overcast edge along the sides and knotted white cotton fringes at the ends. The second rug is a traditional Persian-style mat, displaying a complex central polylobed medallion in cream, blue, and yellow, set against a rich red field. The field is densely decorated with all-over floral sprays and scrolling foliate motifs. This piece is framed by multiple decorative borders, including a main border with repeating floral patterns on a dark ground. Both rugs are constructed with a wool pile on cotton foundations. Small adhesive stickers are present on the pile of both items.
Condition report:
Both rugs appear to be in good overall condition with no significant signs of wear, pile loss, or structural damage visible. Fringes are generally well-preserved. There is minor adhesive residue on the pile from lot stickers.
