A pair of decorative mirrors featuring polychrome Barbola-style ornamentation. The first is a circular wall mirror with a cluster of relief-molded composition flowers at the top, including roses and garden flora in shades of pink, blue, and yellow with green foliage. The second is a shield-shaped dressing table mirror featuring a bevelled glass plate and an easel support. It is decorated with a similar floral spray on the left edge. The floral elements are made of a gesso or composition material, hand-painted and applied to the mirror surfaces. The dressing mirror has a gold-toned metal easel back. Both items are consistent with English Barbola work from the mid-20th century.
Condition report:
The mirrors are in good vintage condition. There is minor surface dust and light wear to the hand-painted floral elements consistent with age. No major chips or cracks are visible in the decorative moulding. The mirror plates are clear and show no significant foxing or loss of silvering. The easel mechanism on the shield-shaped mirror remains functional.
