Lot 425: A Large Decorative Cast Metal Toad Ornament and a Ceramic Wall Mounted Towel Ring
This lot comprises two functional and decorative items. The first is a substantial toad ornament, likely manufactured from cast iron, possibly intended for use as a doorstop or garden sculpture. The piece features a textured warty surface finished in mottled green paint, with an arched upper border decorated with gold-painted foliate scrollwork. A single glass eye is inset into the head. The second item is a wall-mounted bathroom towel ring in a traditional style, featuring a white glazed ceramic circular mounting plate and a chrome-plated metal ring assembly. No maker’s marks are visible on either item.
Condition report:
The toad ornament shows signs of wear and age, including losses to the green and gold paint finishes and areas of surface oxidation. The ceramic towel ring mounting plate exhibits surface staining and discolouration. The chrome ring shows minor surface scratches and general wear consistent with use.
