A pair of art reference volumes. The primary work is The Drawings and Engravings of William Blake by Laurence Binyon, published by The Studio, London, in 1922. This large-format volume is bound in publisher’s cream-coloured cloth with gilded lettering and a central decorative scrollwork ornament to the front board, all contained within a double-line gilded border. This edition is a noted scholarly collection of William Blake’s visual artwork. The second volume is an art history book featuring the works of Auguste Rodin, displayed open at Plate XX (Pl. XX), showing monochrome reproductions of figurative sculptures. No title page or publication information is visible for the second volume.
Condition report:
The Blake volume exhibits significant foxing and surface soiling to the cream-coloured boards, with notable wear to the extremities and bumping to the corners. The internal pages show general age-related toning. The Rodin volume shows severe tattering and irregular tearing to the fore-edge of the visible internal pages. Neither volume is accompanied by a dust jacket.
