Lot 379A: An Assortment of Framed Artworks including a Mid-20th Century Landscape Watercolour
This lot comprises several framed pictures, the most prominent being a landscape watercolour on paper. The central work depicts a tranquil scene of a wooded bank overlooking a body of water, executed in a loose, impressionistic style with broad colour washes and a soft palette. The composition features a focal point of trees nestled against a distant structure under an expansive sky. While dark marks are visible in the lower right corner of the painted area, no signature is clearly legible. The painting is housed in a deep, multi-stepped gilt-effect frame with a beaded inner border and a wide, dark charcoal-grey mount. Also visible within the group is a smaller landscape print or painting in a simple black frame and at least one other partially obscured framed work with a white mount.
Condition report:
The primary watercolour appears generally well-preserved behind glass, though there is evident light toning to the paper consistent with age. The gilt-effect frame shows minor surface wear, scuffing, and small losses to the finish, particularly along the outer edges and corners. The smaller black frame shows light surface scratching. All items are sold as viewed in their current storage condition.
