Lot 363: After Thomas Gainsborough (British, 1727-1788), 'The Blue Boy'
A framed reproduction print of Thomas Gainsborough’s portrait ‘The Blue Boy’. The artwork depicts a youth in a full-length pose, dressed in seventeenth-century style blue satin doublet and breeches, holding a plumed hat against a landscape background under a cloudy sky. The print is presented behind glass in an ornate, heavily scrolled cast metal frame featuring foliate motifs and a decorative guilloche-patterned inner border. Two adhesive inventory labels are visible on the upper right: a white label printed with ‘2 2’ and an orange label with the handwritten number ‘363’.
Condition report:
The frame exhibits surface oxidation and minor wear to the finish consistent with age. The print appears well-preserved behind glass with no visible signs of foxing or moisture damage. Some dust accumulation is present in the recessed areas of the ornate frame.
