Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises two framed commemorative displays of British maritime and naval interest. The first display focuses on HMS Phoebe, a Dido-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy commissioned in 1940. It features a monochrome photograph of the vessel at sea with an original black silk naval cap tally mounted below. The tally band is decorated with embroidered gold wire lettering which reads H.M.S. PHOEBE. The second display consists of original newspaper clippings and a monochrome photograph regarding the 1939 naming and dedication ceremony of the motor lifeboat Jessie Lumb at Bembridge, Isle of Wight. The clippings include the headline BISHOP DEDICATES NEW LIFEBOAT / NAMING CEREMONY AT BEMBRIDGE and detail the proceedings led by the Bishop of Portsmouth and Sir Godfrey Baring. Both items are presented in matching black frames with gold-toned inner slips and cream-coloured mounts.

Condition report:

Both displays appear in good period condition. The newspaper clippings in the second display show expected age-related toning and yellowing. The frames show minor signs of shelf wear and small surface scuffs but are structurally sound. The items have not been examined out of their frames.
