Lot 202: A Late 19th or Early 20th Century Carved Hardwood Decorative Panel
A square decorative hardwood panel, possibly mahogany or oak, featuring a deeply carved foliate rosette in high relief. The symmetrical design consists of a central floral bud encircled by layered, stylized acanthus-type leaves. The composition is set within an integral tiered moulding that forms a square frame. The wood is finished with a dark stain and a polished surface. This panel was likely designed as an architectural element for wall panelling or as a decorative component for larger furniture pieces in the Gothic or Renaissance Revival styles.
Condition report:
The panel is in generally good condition, showing minor surface wear, small scuffs, and a light accumulation of dust within the recessed areas of the carving, all consistent with age and use. Two adhesive inventory stickers are currently attached to the front face (one white with 2, one orange with 202).
