Lot 200: Jane Pinkney (British, b. 1948), A Pair of Original Watercolours of Mice
A pair of original watercolours on paper by the Yorkshire artist Jane Pinkney, both dated 1994. The first illustration depicts a single mouse in traditional golfing attire, wearing a checked flat cap, vest, and plus-fours, while carrying a bag of clubs on a green. The second work features a pair of mice standing beside a rustic wooden sign inscribed Home Sweet Home, with one mouse holding a red balloon. Both works are executed in the artist’s characteristic illustrative style, featuring fine line work and delicate watercolour washes. The golfing mouse is signed J. Pinkney and dated 1994 in the lower right corner. The pair of mice is similarly signed J. Pinkney and dated 1994 in the lower right corner. Each painting is set within a cream-coloured mount featuring a dark green circular or oval inner border, and housed in a matching light-stained wooden frame. The lot is accompanied by a handwritten note identifying the artist as a famous Yorkshire mouse character painter.
Condition report:
Both watercolours are in very good overall condition. There are no visible signs of fading, foxing, or water damage to the paper. The pigments remain bright and clear. The mounts and wooden frames are well-preserved, showing only minor surface wear consistent with age.
