An antique hearth skimmer constructed from wrought iron. The tool features a long, slender handle with a decorative central twist, a characteristic feature of traditional hand-forged ironwork. The handle terminates in a large, flat, circular head containing multiple regularly spaced, hand-punched perforations intended for straining or skimming. The piece displays a dark, aged patina with visible surface pitting and oxidation consistent with historical use over an open fire. Two modern adhesive labels are attached to the face of the head.
Dimensions: Approximately 100cm length.
Condition report:
The skimmer is in a functional antique condition. The metalwork exhibits a dark, oxidized patina with surface pitting and light corrosion throughout. The forged joins appear structurally sound and stable.
