Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A 19th-century brass drum or pocket compound microscope designed for portable field use. The instrument features a cylindrical brass body with a sliding-tube mechanism for focusing and a side aperture to allow light to reach the specimen stage. The microscope is mounted on a circular brass base. It is housed in a fitted mahogany case with a dark fabric-lined base and internal wooden dividers. Included within the case are two additional brass objective lenses and remnants of specimen slides. The box is secured with brass hinges and a simple metal catch. No manufacturer’s mark or signature is visible on the brass components.

Condition report:

The brass shows characteristic signs of age, including oxidisation, tarnish, and light surface scratches. The mahogany case exhibits external wear and scuffing, particularly at the corners, and the interior lining is dusty. The optical functionality and mechanical movement are untested. The lot includes an auction sticker marked 5 and a small orange tag marked S7.
