Lot 9: A Set of Gilt-Finish Fluted Metal Tea and Coffee Service Items
This set comprises a tall coffee pot, a teapot, a twin-handled open sugar bowl, and a cream jug. Each piece is designed with a deeply lobed or fluted body and features a highly reflective, polished gold-toned finish. The finish appears to be a gold plating or wash applied over a silvery-coloured base metal, as evidenced by visible wear to the plating on the foot of the coffee pot. Both the coffee pot and teapot are fitted with hinged lids topped with decorative finials. No hallmarks, maker’s marks, or inscriptions are visible on the exterior surfaces of the items. Small orange adhesive labels are present on each piece.
Condition report:
The service shows signs of wear consistent with age and use. There is visible thinning and wear to the gold-toned plating, particularly around the bases and rims, revealing the underlying silvery metal. Adhesive residue and stickers are present on all pieces. No significant dents, deep scratches, or repairs are visible from the inspection.
