Lot 626: Royal Masonic Hospital Vice Patron Jewel in Original Presentation Case

The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A Royal Masonic Hospital Vice Patron jewel, an honorary medal issued to supporters of the institution. The piece features an oval silver-coloured metal medallion with a central relief depicting a robed figure personifying Charity attending to a seated, semi-nude patient. A scroll positioned above the relief is inscribed with the Latin motto Aegro Sanat on the left and Humanitas on the right. A lower scroll identifies the institution as the Royal Masonic Hospital. The medallion is suspended from a five-pointed star connector with a circular central device featuring the entwined initials RMH. The jewel is attached to a silk ribbon with a central white vertical stripe flanked by two blue stripes. A rectangular silver-coloured metal bar is mounted on the ribbon and inscribed with the rank Vice Patron. The item is housed in a contemporary blue leatherette presentation case with a hinged lid, featuring a cream-coloured fabric lining and a recessed velvet-lined fitment for the medal.

Condition report:

The medal itself is in good condition, showing light surface tarnishing and minor wear consistent with age. The ribbon remains intact but exhibits slight fading and minor fraying at the edges. The presentation case shows significant signs of age; the exterior has some edge scuffing and wear to the hinges, while the interior fabric lining shows heavy staining, foxing, and significant fraying around the medal fitment.
