Lot 498: A Pair of Hepplewhite Style Shield-Back Mahogany Stained Armchairs
A pair of shield-back armchairs in the George III Hepplewhite style, featuring open arms and square tapered front legs. The backs are designed with a central pierced splat surmounted by a carved wheatear or Prince of Wales feather motif. The frames are constructed from mahogany-stained hardwood with a polished finish. Modern fasteners are visible on the underside of the seat rails, identifying these as later 20th-century reproductions. The fixed seats are upholstered in a cream textile decorated with a repeating diamond-lattice pattern.
Condition report:
The chairs are in good, stable condition. There is minor surface wear, including small scuffs and light scratches to the timber, predominantly on the arms and legs. The upholstery is clean and shows no significant staining, tears, or fraying.
