Lot 391: A Collection of Vintage Children's Books and Comic Annuals including Beano and Beezer, c. 1960s-1970s
A collection of vintage children’s books and annuals, primarily dating from the mid-1960s through to the late 1970s. The lot contains an assortment of popular British comic annuals, storybooks, and pop culture publications. Notable titles in pictorial boards include The Beano Book, The Beezer Book, Valiant Boy Annual 1975, Scorcher Annual 1977, Warlord for Boys, TV Tornado Annual, Robin Annual 1969 (Odhams), and Popeye Annual No. 1 (Brown Watson Ltd).
The collection features a significant selection of annuals for girls, including titles such as Bunty for Girls 1974, June Book 1968 and 1972, Sally Annual 1973, Twinkle for little girls 1973, Mandy for Girls 1972, Judy for Girls 1966 (Purnell), and Emergency-Ward 10 Girls’ Annual. Literary and character-based titles include a BCA edition of Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang by Ian Fleming, a Puffin paperback edition of The Story of Doctor Dolittle by Hugh Lofting, and Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Tom Kitten (F. Condition report:
The books are in used, aged condition. Bindings show signs of heavy use, including bumped corners, edge wear, and fraying or chipping to the spines of several volumes. Toning and foxing are visible on the page edges and occasionally to the covers. Some annuals exhibit tearing to the paper or laminate covers, and some paperbacks show creasing and surface soiling.
