A leaded glass terrarium, marketed as a bottle garden, of house-like construction. The hexagonal structure features clear glass side panels and a pitched roof inset with panels of textured emerald green glass. The ridge is finished with two brass-toned metal finials, and the entire piece is mounted on a dark-stained, moulded wooden base. A printed paper label is attached to the front of the wooden base which reads: BOTTLE GARDEN — BALMORAL, EASY HOUSEPLANT, WATER SPARINGLY AS REQUIRED, OCCASIONALLY FEED, REMOVE DEAD FOLIAGE, LIGHT: PLACE NOT SHADED. MIN: 50F-65F, HAYES GARDEN WORLD 390. This indicates the item was originally retailed through Hayes Garden World in Ambleside, Cumbria. An additional partial oval gold-toned label is visible on the interior glass surface.
Condition report:
The item is in fair condition. The glass panels appear intact with no visible cracks or chips. There is a significant accumulation of white residue, likely old sealant or mineral deposits, visible around the internal base where the glass panels join the wooden frame. General surface dust and grime are present throughout, and the wooden base shows minor scuffs and marks consistent with age and use.
