Lot 315: Roberto, A Dutch Street Scene with the Zuiderkerk, Amsterdam
An oil on canvas painting depicting a bustling Dutch town view, looking towards the distinctive spire of the Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam. The composition features historic brick buildings with stepped gables on the right, lining a cobblestone street populated with several figures in traditional period dress. A group of mature trees occupies the centre of the scene under a bright, cloud-filled sky. The work is signed vertically Roberto to the upper right edge. It is presented in an ornate, heavily moulded gilt composite frame featuring scrolling foliate and shell motifs with a linen-covered inner slip. Two auction labels are visible on the left side of the frame, one orange sticker numbered 315 and one white label numbered 2 2.
Condition report:
The canvas shows some slight surface dirt and minor undulations, though it remains structurally sound. The paint layer appears stable with no visible signs of restoration. The gilt frame has some minor losses to the composite ornament, small cracks, and general surface wear. The linen slip shows light discolouration and minor staining.
