This lot comprises a 1950 edition of Bond’s Model and Experimental Engineering Handbook and two vintage metal containers. The handbook is a softcover volume with original printed paper wrappers, published by Bond’s (established 1887). The front cover features a circular logo depicting a steam locomotive engine and retains the original printed price of 1/9.
The first tin is of rectangular form with rounded corners and a hinged lid. The lid is finished in a brown, textured leather-effect material, while the sides are decorated with a lithographed pictorial scene depicting an 18th or 19th-century coaching scene with a horse-drawn carriage.
The second tin is a square decorative container with a gold-toned finish. The lid features an all-over debossed diamond lattice pattern and a central, glazed oval portrait miniature of a gentleman in historical attire. Four small black pads are adhered to the corners of the lid.
Condition report:
The handbook is in good vintage condition showing signs of handling consistent with workshop use, including age-related discolouration, light foxing, and minor creasing to the covers; faint handwritten notations are present on the front wrapper. The pictorial tin shows general surface wear and carries a modern orange sticker. The portrait tin exhibits notable rubbing to the gilt finish, tarnishing, and surface patina, and bears a small white numerical sticker.
