This lot consists of a traditional English helmet-shaped coal scuttle and a commemorative industrial copper rod. The coal scuttle is constructed from hammered copper sheet with a riveted body and base, fitted with a fixed, arched wrought iron overhead handle. The accompanying copper rod is an industrial specimen with a coiled steel spring handle. The rod is fitted with a metal collar bearing the engraved inscription: COPPER ROD ROLLED AT TATANAGAR JANUARY 1953. This item provides a historical link to industrial output from Tatanagar, India, in the mid-20th century.
Condition report:
The copper surfaces display a dark, unpolished patina with areas of green verdigris and oxidation, particularly to the interior of the scuttle. The wrought iron handle shows significant surface corrosion and rust. Both items exhibit minor dents and signs of wear consistent with age and functional use. Orange adhesive inventory labels are present.
