A collection of hand-coloured stipple engravings after Francis Wheatley R.A. (1747-1801), featuring Plate 2 from the Cries of London series titled Milk below Maids. This specific print was engraved by Luigi Schiavonetti and published by Colnaghi and Co. in 1793. The composition illustrates a street scene with a milk seller and children. The lower margin is inscribed with Painted by F. Wheatley R.A., Engraved by L. Schiavonetti, Plate 2, and the titles Milk below Maids and Qui veut du lait il est tout chaud. The publication line at the bottom centre states London Pubd as the Act directs July 2d 1793 by Colnaghi and Co No 132 Pall Mall. The prints feature distinct plate marks and are finished with delicate hand-colouring. The collection is presented in modern off-white mounts and dark-stained wooden frames under glass.
Condition report:
The prints exhibit even toning across the paper consistent with their age. There is no evidence of foxing, significant tears, or heavy plate wear. The wooden frames show some minor scuffing to the finish.
