A 19th Century Mahogany Longcase Clock by James Whitelaw of Edinburgh

The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Auction house commission:

A 19th-century mahogany longcase clock, the dial signed Jas Whitelaw, Edinburgh. The case is topped with a swan-neck pediment featuring carved rosettes and a central brass finial, supported by a hood with fluted columns. The trunk door and base are decorated with figured mahogany veneers and boxwood stringing. The arched painted white dial features Roman numeral hour markers and two subsidiary dials for seconds and the date. The spandrels and the arch are ornamented with painted floral and fruit motifs. The movement is a mechanical weight-driven type.

The mahogany case shows minor surface abrasions and wear consistent with age. The painted dial displays fine crazing and some minor loss to the pigment around the winding apertures. The movement is untested for working order; the completeness of the internal components, weights, and pendulum is unknown.
