Buyer's Premium:

A 19th-century mahogany longcase clock by the maker James Whitelaw of Edinburgh. The case features a swan-neck pediment hood with carved floral scrolls and three brass-toned finials. The trunk and base are constructed with flame mahogany veneers and accented with decorative stringing inlays. The arched painted dial is signed Jas Whitelaw, Edinburgh and features a hand-painted floral still life within the lunette. The dial includes floral-decorated spandrels, Roman numeral hour markers, and two subsidiary dials for seconds and the date. A winding key is included with the lot.


Condition report:

The painted dial surface displays significant crazing consistent with age. The mahogany case shows minor surface wear and light abrasions. Movement is untested.
