Lot 532: The Scottish Students' Song Book, Published by Bayley & Ferguson
A vintage cloth-bound edition of The Scottish Students’ Song Book, published by Bayley & Ferguson of London and Glasgow for the Scottish Students’ Songbook Committee. The volume features an olive-green cloth cover with decorative black Art Nouveau-style scrollwork. The central panel contains a colour illustration of a figure in a red classical garment playing a lyre, set against a gilded background with a rising sun motif. The cover bears the Latin inscription Gaudeamus Igitur Juvenes Dum Sumus and identifies the publication as being for the Scottish Students. Web research indicates various editions were edited by Patrick Millar and others.
Condition report:
The cover shows visible signs of age and use, including surface scuffing, minor staining, and fraying to the edges and corners. There is some fading to the cloth and minor abrasions to the central illustration.
