Lot 272: Two Vintage Decorative Boxes comprising a Japanese Lacquer Box and an Inlaid Wooden Document Box
A lot consisting of two vintage boxes. The first is a Japanese-style black lacquer box decorated with a hand-painted landscape scene depicting a snow-capped mountain, pagodas, and sailing vessels. The scene is framed by a tessellated mother-of-pearl border. The interior is divided into compartments and lined with pleated red fabric. The second is a rectangular wooden document box featuring a simple inlaid line border to the lid, accented with circular metal bosses at the corners and centre. The interior is lined with red fabric and includes a brass latch mechanism.
Condition report:
Both items exhibit visible signs of age and use. There are surface scuffs, scratches, and areas of wear to the exterior finishes. The interior linings show fading and wear consistent with age. The lacquer box shows some fine cracking to the painted decoration.
